Cubexology
In a tranquil neighbourhood of Kalmthout, this elegant 1936 residence by architect Wauters stands as a refined expression of Belgian Art Deco, where geometric balance meets crafted detail. A home with presence and quiet character, it offered the ideal canvas for a kitchen that would both respect and reinterpret its original spirit.
The kitchen, a historically faithful Cubex C30, is fully curved, a fluid gesture that complements the architectural context while asserting its own quiet presence.
Topped with an enamelled lava stone worktop, it brings an added layer of distinction and refinement to the space, echoing the elegance of 1930s interiors without resorting to pastiche.
This choice pays homage to the architectural context, while asserting a contemporary vision of function.
Materiality plays a central role: glossy white surfaces meet warm yellow wall tiles and red terracotta floors, a palette that connects past and present with confidence and subtlety.
This project is less about reproduction than resonance. It’s about finding the rhythm between legacy and modern living, and letting architecture guide the design from within.
